We will promote cultural festival for peace – Governor Idr

Kebbi Gov, Nasir Idris

Kebbi Governor, Dr Nasir Idris has promised continued support for cultural festivities towards promoting peace, unity and brotherliness amongst the people of the state.

The governor made this known at the launching of a book titled: 'History of Yauri Kingdom from 1411 to 2014' held at the Emir's palace, Yauri in Kebbi State on Friday.

The launching of the book is part of activities lined up for the 2024 RIGATA Cultural Festivals.

"Cultural festivals remain a pathway for promoting culture and tradition, apart from strengthening bond of relationships amongst people of divergent interests and beliefs," Governor Idris observed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Sarki Yahaya.

He encouraged people to "respect traditional institutions being the custodians of culture and tradition."

The governor tasked those who made pledges to redeem their pledges so that they would serve the purpose it was meant for.

Earlier, the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi said the Kingdom derived its name from the fifth ruler of the Kingdom by name Yawuri (1505-1538), recalling that it was during the reign of Yawuri that the Kingdom became rich and popular.

He described the presence of different personalities at the launch as a sign of honour to the emirate and appreciated them for finding time to make the occasion colourful. More than N85 million was raised during the launch.
