West Ham Announce Signing Of Alvarez From Ajax

West Ham have announced the signing of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in a deal worth £35.4 million.

The 25-year-old Mexico international becomes the Hammers' first signing of the summer transfer window following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million.

He signed a permanent contract until June 2028 and will wear the No 19 shirt at the London Stadium.

"It's a hugely sentimental moment for me in my career. To join a club like West Ham is a dream for me and my family," Alvarez said.

"The Premier League is a special league, the best league in the world and I think my style will suit it.

"I now have a responsibility to West Ham and the West Ham family and I will give absolutely everything for the shirt."

Manager David Moyes added: "We're really pleased to add Edson to our squad.

"The midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer - and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department.

"He's an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date."

Alvarez moved to Ajax in July 2019 after he signed off his time with Club América by winning the Clausura Copa MX final against Juárez.

He won two Eredivisie titles at Ajax and became the first Mexican player to score on his UEFA Champions League group-stage debut.

He has 69 caps for Mexico and was a key figure in the Mexico side that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States this summer.
