Bryan Andrews, the director of the Marvel Studios animated series What If...? has recalled the last moments he spent with late star Chadwick Boseman during the latter's recording session for the show.
Starring the actors who portray the major characters in the MCU, What If...? is mind-bending series that explores alternative versions of the characters in similar scenarios.
While speaking recently with THR, series director Bryan Andrews disclosed details of his last working day with the late Chadwick Boseman, revealing that the actor enjoyed being on the animated project.
Chadwick Boseman's character in the WHAT IF...? series
"[Chadwick] really enjoyed the idea of being able to play this slightly different version of T’Challa", Andrews said. "The events are so extremely different, but the galaxy doesn’t change T’Challa; T’Challa changes the galaxy.
"There are a few more times where he pops up briefly in a couple other episodes, so we were able to record with him a little bit during the pandemic.
"Those records were over Zoom calls, and in the last record, when we were done, I, selfishly, was able to tell him how much I personally thought of him…
"He touched his heart and he was very thankful, but we had no idea he was going through what he was going through."
Boseman passed away in 2020 after battling colon cancer. He will be remembered for playing the character of T'Challa in the MCU film Black Panther, a role he reprised in two Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
What If...? premiered on Disney + today, August 11, 2021. It has been renewed for a second season. Watch the trailer below.
