What You Need to Know About Abubakar And Aliyu, Buhari's New

Following the sack of Ministers of Agriculture, Mohammed Sabo Nanono, and Mamman Saleh of the power ministry on Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari, here are what you need to know about the new ministers.

Dr. Mohammad Mahmoud Abubakar

The New Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammad Mahmoud Abubakar is the former Minister of Environment. He was born on December 30, 1958 in Tudun Wada,Kaduna State. 

Abubakar's higher Education began with a Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Microbiology and a Master’s Degree in Resources Management from Central Washington University, Ellensburg.

He also obtained his Ph.D in Watersheds Management from the University of Arizona, Tucson in the United States of America.

Upon completion of his NYSC, he worked for over 10 years in different organizations.

He worked at the University of Arizona as Research and Teaching Assistant, E&A Environmental Services Los Angeles, and as Environmental professional at California amongst others outside Nigeria.  

Back in Nigeria, Abubakar worked as a Director Planning, Research and Evaluation with the Kaduna State Environmental Protection Agency.

He also served as member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly among other posts in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In 1989 at the University of Arizona, he was awarded Doctoral Research Scholarship which earned him experiences in Natural Resource Management, Biological and chemical water quality assessment, Watershed/River Basin Management, Environmental protection programme design and implementation among others.

The new Power Minister is a former Minister of State for Works and Housing, Engnr. Abubakar Aliyu. He is an accomplished engineer with a membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Aliyu is also a member of the Council of Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).  

He is an indegene of Potiskum In Yobe state. 

His educational career started at Central Primary School Jimeta in 1979. In 1984, he obtained his West African School Certificate at GSSS Monguno, Borno State.

Aliyu proceeded to Kaduna state polytechnic where he obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering in the year 1988.

After his HND in High Ways and Transportation Engineering in 1993, Aliyu went further to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Civil and Water Resources Engineering from the University of Maiduguri.

He served as the Deputy Governor of Yobe State from 2009 to 2019, and overseeing Commissioner of Health, Commerce, Integrated Rural Development among others.

Aliyu also served as chairman of many committees in the public sector and has received numerous awards.

He had been awarded Best Deputy Governor of Decade by North-East Star Magazine, Distinguished Service Award among others.
