What You Need To Know About Nigerian Musician Omah Lay

AllNews Nigerian understands that Nigerian musician, Omah Lay, and Tem who were arrested in Uganda on Sunday over non-compliance with COVID-19 rules have been released today, Tuesday.

Omah Lay whose real name is Omah Stanley Didia who released his debut EP, Get Layd, earlier this year has been described as wielding the "lyricism of Burna Boy and the melodies of Wizkid."

AllNews Nigeria understands that the police in Uganda have dropped charges against Omah Lay, Ms Tems, others.

According to a Ugandan musician,  Bobi Wine the Nigerians have been freed.

Bobi Wine, announced Tuesday on Twitter that his lawyers joined in representing Omah Lay, Ms Tems, her manager, and the Ugandans charged.

Biography Of Omah Lay

23-year-old Omah Lay is a Nigerian artist who hails from Rivers state south-south of Nigeria but grew up in Port Harcourt.

The Nigerian artiste began his career at age 15 join a rap group, Lil King, after he switched to producing before going solo.

Omah Lay attended Rivers State Comprehensive High School had his university education at UNIPORT.

According to BBC, Omah Lay is also from a musical family, his grandfather was an instrumentalist for legendary highlife singer Celestine Ukwu before his death in 1976. 

Omah Lay's song "Do Not Disturb" and "Hello Brother", began airing in 2019 via Port Harcourt based radio stations.

The Dvpper Music record label signee is a gifted artist and has the uncanny ability to exist in his space, even when circling around the afro-fusion tag that has seen a recent rise in adaptability.

Why Uganda Police Arrested Omah Lay, Others

On Monday, authorities for Uganda remanded Omah Lay and Tems for violating COVID-19 rules, charged them with “negligently doing acts likely to spread infectious diseases.”

Uganda Police said the duo were also arrested with one other person, Muyiwa Awomiyi. They said:

“The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”
