Meta messaging platform WhatsApp has released new features that enable users to organise a different group chat into communities.
The new features tagged Communities were announced on Thursday for users to organise different chat groups into greater structures, as well as other capabilities like larger group video calls and in-chat polls.
The Communities feature, which might be used by companies or schools, will gather different chat groups under a larger umbrella where managers can issue alerts to a community of thousands.
According to a company release, the app will now permit chat groups to have up to 1,024 individuals, a significant increase over the 256-participant limit it had previously.
WhatsApp rivals, including Telegram and Discord, allow thousands of members in group chats.
Other new features include in-chat polls, a frequent feature on social media apps like Meta's Facebook and Twitter, as well as 32-person video calling.
