WhatsApp Is Down For Millions Of Users Globally

Messaging app WhatsApp is now experiencing a significant outage globally.

The outage was discovered a few minutes after 8:00 on Tuesday (WAT).

There have been more than 60,000 reports of problems with the service on Downdetector, and the outage seems to be affecting people everywhere.

"Make sure your computer has an active internet connection" error message will appear when a user tries to use WhatsApp on PC.

“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” says Meta spokesperson Joshua Breckman in a statement on Twitter.

This is the first major WhatsApp outage since the service went down as part of a massive outage that also took down Instagram, Messenger, Oculus, and Facebook last year.

It took over six hours for that outage to be fixed and for WhatsApp to resume operation.

The significant disruption, according to Meta, then known as Facebook, was caused by a router configuration change.

Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram are all operating normally right now; WhatsApp is the only app that isn't.

WhatsApp outages are still relatively rare, but they have major implications for communications worldwide as the service is used by more than two billion people each month.

When WhatsApp went down last year, Brazilian workers’ jobs went with it.
