Why Arsenal lost Premier League crown to Man City — Rodri

Manchester City midfielder Rodri believes Arsenal lost the Premier League title because of their negative approach when they faced his club in March at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal were defensive in the manner they prosecuted the game which ended in a 0-0 draw unlike their usual attacking style and Rodri who has been one of the most influential players for City and the league in general spoke to Optus Sport on his thoughts on Arsenal's campaign.

Rodri scored the third goal in the City 3-1 win over West Ham United that handed the champions a fourth successive title.

Asked what sets City apart from their rivals, Rodri told Optus Sport: “It’s the mentality. Great players are all over the leagues, all over the clubs. Arsenal also, they did an unbelievable season.

Rodri who was not considered for nomination in the Player of the Season award went on:

“But I think the difference was in [the head]. When they came here, when they faced us at the Etihad, I saw, these guys do not want to beat us. They just want to draw.

“And that mentality, we would not do the same way. And we caught it. In the end, if you give us one point, we will win the last seven, eight games even though it is tough. It is in terms of mentality."
