Why Conditional Cash Transfer Is Delayed In Jigawa

Jigawa State Gov. Alhaji Badaru Abubakar

Jigawa State Government says the delay in distribution of 5, 000 cash transfer to new mothers and pregnant women is because the women lack bank accounts.

State Deputy Governor, who doubles as the chairman technical working group of State conditional cash transfer for mothers with infants and pregnant women, Alhaji Umar Namadi said this while answering question from news men about the delay in the payment of selected 5,000 pregnant women for the program on Wednesday.

“Opening account is our major problem, as over 1,200 beneficiaries have neither a national ID card  nor a voters card.  About 400 beneficiaries have issues with their Bank Verification Number," Namadi explained.

He maintained that, majority of those that have a bank account cannot even remember their valid Bank verification Number while some have no account at all.

According to him, the present administration in the state decided to commence the program which is aimed at encouraging attendance of anti-natal clinics by pregnant women and to reduce maternal mortality in the state.

The deputy governor then assured that, very soon the challenges will be over and the payment will soon commence for the benefit of pregnant women across 287 political wards in the state.
