Why I Will Not Contest For Senate Presidency - Ndume

The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has revealed why he will not contest for the Senate presidency in the 10th Assembly.

Ndume said while he has the experience to contest, he will not join the race because the contest has been monitised.

The Senator made this known on Tuesday in an interview with the BBC Hausa service.

“If I am rich and can share money as was being done presently to get positions in the Senate, with my experience, I tell you I would have become the President of the Senate.

"There is nothing like considering competence, everything was monetised,” he explained.

He alleged that there were contestants who have started lobyying for the seat through vote buying.

He said even the inexperienced ones were contesting because they have the money to buy votes.

He added that while competence have been relegated, the contestants have resulted to buying votes from fellow senators who would decide who becomes the 10th Assembly Senate President.

“In the past it was said that the vote of the poor is being bought, now it has reached that even the senator’s vote is wanted to be bought.

“There are senators aspiring for the Senate President who give money to senators," he added.
