Why Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Series May Disappoint Fans

Why Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Series

The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series from Netflix may disappoint fans if a recent rumour is true.

Airing on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008, Avatar: The Last Airbender is an animated series that became critically acclaimed by fans and critics, winning hearts with its spell-binding visuals and engaging story.

Netflix made the decision to make a live-action version of the series after the abysmal failure that was M. Night Shyamalan's attempt at a live-action film in 2010.

News of the live-action series was met with excitement, especially with the involvement of the creators of the original show Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Unfortunately, they both departed the project but Netflix is forging ahead anyway.

Per a report from GeekTyrant, there is a recent rumour from The Illuminerdi that the ages of some of the main characters will be changed.

According to The Illuminerdi, Aang will still be 12 years old, but Sokka and Katara's ages will be changed. While Sokka's will be reduced from 15 to 14, Katara's age will go up from 14 to 16.

If the above rumour is true, then Netflix is making a very big mistake by changing the dynamics of the bond between three young characters.

Sokka being the eldest of the three made perfect sense as his leadership qualities grew throughout the series, finally having a big impact towards the end. Why the heck would the streaming platform change that? What for?

If it plays out the way the rumour says, then it will be a major disappointment to fans who would not hesitate to turn their backs on the show. If this is part of the reason the original creators left the project, then no one can blame them as they made the right decision.

Since nothing has been confirmed as of the time of writing this, then it is hoped that the rumour turns out to be false.
