Why Tekno Was Relegated From Music — Comedian Koffi [Video

Nigerian comedian Koffi has shed light on why singer Tekno found himself relegated from the music scene despite his significant contributions to the global success of Afrobeats.

In an interview with Galaxy TC, Koffi attributed Tekno’s exit from the music spotlight to his reluctance to share his personal struggles with the world during a period of illness.

Koffi praised Tekno’s pivotal role in the rise of Afrobeats, noting that the artiste played a significant part in infusing fresh sounds into the genre when others were still searching for its identity.

He highlighted Tekno’s hit track ‘Pana’ as a turning point for Afrobeats and emphasised the impact of the songs ‘If’ and ‘Fall’, which Tekno wrote for Davido, as they became the first Afrobeats tunes to gain global recognition.

“Before Afrobeats could cross globally, everybody was just trying to find it. But you see those sampling sounds into it, and then the bounce; it was Tekno that discovered it.

“He was the one that brought ‘Pana’ and did that very nice video that people liked. Then he handed it over to Davido.

“‘If’ and ‘Fall’ were created by Tekno and they were the first two songs that went global and viral,” Koffi said.

Koffi went on to highlight Tekno’s commitment to music even during his period of illness, citing the release of Kizz Daniel’s ‘Buga’ as a testament to his dedication.

However, he expressed his belief that Tekno’s decision to keep his health struggles private on social media led to his decline in the music industry.

“Whilst he was not able to do his thing, he gave us ‘Buga’. He has contributed quietly in a lot of ways.

“But because he was ill, it was worse than just his vocals,  and he did not showcase his pain to social media, they relegated him.”

In 2019, during an interview with Daddy Freeze, Tekno revealed why he took a break from his music career.

He shared that he encountered a problem with his voice while singing on one occasion, and things started to worsen from there.

Tekno explained that when the issue became severe, he travelled to London and later to the United States to seek medical help.

During that time, he publicly mentioned that he was dealing with acid reflux, a condition where stomach acid flows back into the throat, and a doctor informed him that it was quite serious, affecting his vocal cords.

As a result, Tekno had to cancel numerous scheduled performances and spent a considerable amount of money seeking advice and treatment, both online and offline.

At a certain point, he had to go silent for three weeks, relying on an app to communicate with others.

Ultimately, after enduring a series of challenging medical tests, Tekno underwent surgery.

During the procedure, surgeons implanted a metallic device to prevent stomach acid from flowing back into his oesophagus, addressing the root cause of his health issue.
