Why We Sacked Oshiomhole-Led NWC - APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed why it sacked its Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Making this revelation in a counter-affidavit filed before the Federal High Court Abuja, in opposition to the suit filed by a Youth leader of the party challenging the removal of the Oshiomhole led NWC, the party said its decision was taken to end the internal crisis in the party.

it will be recalled that The National Executive Committee of the party had on June 25 dissolved the Oshiomhole-led NWC and set up a new caretaker committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

However, a suit filed by Agu the Youth leader asked the court to restrain the Buni-led leadership of the party from assuming the position of National leadership.

Joined as respondents to the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, Buni, and members of the caretaker committee.

Responding to the suit, S. E. Aruwa the lawyer of APC asked the court to dismiss the suit as it was designed to destabilize the affairs of the party.

Adenike Adelakun, a librarian at Aruwa's law firm further explained that  “the setting up of the Caretaker/Ordinary Convention Planning Committee was a way to bring to an end the leadership crises that had engulfed the affairs of the 2nd defendants (APC).”

The party further said that its constitution allows the party’s National Executive Committee to set up any committee” including the caretaker committee, “as it may deem necessary and assign to such committee(s) powers and functions as it may deem fit.”

Justice Taiwo Taiwo however fixed September 18 for ruling on whether or not to hear the matter during the court’s vacation.
