Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the wife of former 'Biafran President', Chukuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu has said that the greatest problem bedevilling Igbo survival in Nigeria is traced to Ndigbo themselves, AllNews reports.

Mrs Ojukwu, a former Nigerian ambassador to Spain made the comments on Thursday, November 26 at an event in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

"It is a misnomer that Ndigbo refers to themselves as Jews, but we hardly behave like Jews. Igboland is backward today because a lot of our people live and develop their places of domicile. They only come home for burials and a few ceremonies," Bianca said.

“How many Yorubas, Hausas, and people from other tribes, built houses or industries in Igboland? We have high-rise buildings, industries, and estates across Nigeria.

"Honestly, the greatest threat to Igbo freedom and survival is Ndigbo themselves.”

Bianca's late husband, Ojukwu, led the war over the breakaway state of Biafra over 50 years ago.

In a related development, a former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has weighed in on calls for ceding the presidential tickets of the major political parties to the South East, saying while it is possible to have a president of Igbo extraction in 2023, the zone must engage the northern part of the country in dialogue.

This was as he tasked the Federal Government on the need to devolve power to the states, saying with the increasing wave of insecurity as well as serious economic challenges, it has become expedient to so do.

Ekweremadu, who still represents Enugu West Senatorial District, gave the advice last Wednesday in Abuja at a book presentation titled: ‘Pitch: Debunking Marketing’s Strongest Myths’, authored by brands strategist, Ikem Okuhu.

According to him, “there is clamour for Igbo presidency today. And I believe it can only be realised if we engage ourselves in conversation with northern Nigeria to buy into our initiative”.

AllNews understands that while some Easterners support Igbo presidency 2023, some others don't.
