Wife Of Detained Journalist Cries Out Over Husband's Poor Health

Wife Of Detained Journalist Cries Out Over Husband's Poor He

Gladys Binniyat, the wife of Luka Binniyat, a Kaduna-based freelance journalist has cried out over the deteriorating health of her husband.

Biniyat is presently being detained at the maximum-security prison in Kaduna over an allegation of defamation against Senator Danjuma La'ah.

A complaint was made on November 3, 2021, alleging that a news story authored by Luka in the 'Epoch Times', a U.S.-based newspaper defamed the Senator.

Luka has been in police custody since November 4 on charges of injurious falsehood and defamation.

Gladys claims that Luka has been unable to walk since Tuesday. It was gathered that all efforts to admit Luka to bail have also proven futile.

According to PUNCH, she lamented via a phone interview on Thursday that the treatment administered to him at the prison clinic was insufficient and pleaded that he be taken to a better medical facility.

"He called me on Tuesday saying that his legs are giving him issues. He said they were swollen and he could not work.

“He was rushed to the prison clinic in a wheelchair. They just bandaged his legs and he gave them money to buy drugs which he used," she said.

She added that they took him back to the cell, before they attended to him.

"I don’t have confidence in the treatment they gave to him, he complained of pains at around 7am and you gave him treatment by 6pm, if it is something that would have killed him that was how they would have left him to die.

“I saw him this morning. His legs are still swollen and he can’t walk. I want them to release my husband for me so that he can be taken care of.

“I am not sure of the kind of drugs given to him, I don’t trust them. I want him to be taken to a good medical facility for proper checkup and treatment," she pleaded.
