Following the arrest of former Anambra governor Willie Obiano, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed why he was apprehended.
Obiano was nabbed by the aforementioned agency on Thursday night at the Lagos International Airport on his way out of the country.
EFCC Public Relations Officer, Wilson Uwajaren, while speaking with BBC Pidgin confirmed Obiano's arrest and added that he had been on the agency's watchlist for some time.
"Obiano has been on our watchlist for some time now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.
“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him", he said.
The development comes on the heels of Obiano handing over the governorship position to Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday.
