WIMBIZ Writes FG Over Exclusion Of Women From Varsities Gove

The Board of Trustees and Executive Council of Women in Management, Business & Public Service (WIMBIZ) has written to the Federal Government to protest the non-inclusion of women in the recently constituted Governing Councils of five Federal universities including Obafemi Awolowo University.

The other universities include; the University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State, University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) in Rivers State, and Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Delta State.

In the letter dated April 12, 2021, which was addressed to Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Education, the need for gender inclusion in federal appointments was stressed.

According to the letter, the inclusion of women in federal appointments underscores the very essence of federal character and mirrors global organizational best practice. 

"The importance of gender inclusion in federal appointments cannot be overemphasized and Nigerian women have continuously proven to be intellectually capable and resourceful nation builders.

"In addition, the appointment of Women into these Governing Councils further drives inclusive development and accentuates the role of women in nation-building." the letter stated in part.

WIMBIZ, therefore, called on Government to consider and prioritize women inclusion in subsequent appointments.
