WIRE WIRE: How Fraudsters Defraud Nigerians With Sim Cards (

Day in day out fraudsters look for an easy and more convenient way to operate by simply coming up with a new idea to defraud Nigerians of their hard earn money.

Before now, we have heard of internet fraud, cyber fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud but now the new method of defrauding people is called ‘wire wire’.

Wire wire, also known as the local wire is a SIM transaction format used by the fraudster to withdraw money from any SIM cards connected to a bank account without the knowledge of the owner.

One of the fraudsters arrested by the police revealed this while he was being interrogated on how they use SIM cards to operate.

According to him, "wire wire is a SIM transaction. With local wire, I can withdraw money from any SIM card that collects bank alert.

“If you give me any alert SIM now, I will dial the USSD code *245*100# and it will show the bank the owner of the SIM card is using. Take for instance, it shows Access Bank, I will dial *901*00# to further show the account balance of the owner.

“So if I want to hack the person account I will reset the person PIN number and to reset the PIN number it will ask for the person account number and date of birth which I will need to provide.

“Most times Nigerians like storing their account details and numbers on their mobile phone contact while some don’t save on their phone at all.

“So if I don’t see the person account number on his contact, I will use his BVN number to find outs the person account detail by dialling *565*0#. After that, I will register and change the person PIN number and I will be using the account to do a transfer.

“After I have put the account number and date of birth, it will ask me to create a new PIN, the PIN I created will be what I will be using to do transfer from his account.

“But if there is no money in the account and the account is a salary account, I will use the account to loan money and the maximum amount I can use to loan account ranges from 15k to 35k.”

Speaking further, he added that no matter how hard the code maybe he will surely breakthrough and withdraw money from the account.

He said, “No matter how hard the USSD code or security code maybe, I will be able to withdraw money from the account the more it is an alert SIM card.”

Speaking on where he normally transfer the money to, he said “I do open a non-traces account known as Azar.

“Non-traces account is when I open an account with someone else BVN number and use it to push money from another person account to the new account without bank tracing it to me rather to the BVN account holder.

“Even without seeing any SIM card number, I can open a non-traces account. All I need is to just get any BVN number anywhere and create a non-traces account with it by simply registering a new account with a BVN number.

The veracity of the fraudster's claim is yet to be ascertained. In coming days, Allnews will publish expert opinions about the claims from telecoms professinals, banking professionals and security experts.
