Withdrawal Of Lagos Squash Team From NSF Painful — Player

Nasir Abdulrahman, Lagos State Squash Association (LSSA) player, has described as painful the exclusion of squash from the events Team Lagos would feature in at the National Sports Festival (NSF).

Abdulrahman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday that the decision was demoralising.

Lagos State Sports Commission excluded squash from Team Lagos’ events in order to reduce the number of athletes representing the state at the festival.

“It is so painful that at this stage the Sports Commission has decided to stop our squash players from participating at the festival. This is so demoralising.

“We have been training since 2019, through all the postponement, and now we have nothing to look forward to which is really painful.

“The essence of training is basically to assess ourselves and then showcase how much we have learnt in a competitive tournament, but with this exclusion, we won’t be able to assess,” Abdulrahman said.

He, however, appealed to the Lagos State Sports Commission to reconsider the decision and return the squash to the Team Lagos’ events list.

“Records speak. At the last festival, we won medals. Squash can get as much as five medals. So, it will be so unfortunate if the Sports Commission chooses to ignore squash.

“I am appealing, and I know I am speaking for other players, for the Commission to please reconsider its decision and give us a fair chance to show how much we have to show,’’ the player said
