Wizkid Wins 2020 BET Soul Train Award For Second Time

Nigerian superstar  and songwriter Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid has created history by becoming the first Nigerian act to win the BET soul train award for the second time. The event took place on Sunday and was filmed in several locations and virtually aired on BET.

The news of Wizkid’s victory broke on the internet after @Soultrain took to their Twitter account to announce the winner of the award for the song 'brown skin' with Beyoncé, Blue Ivy and Saint JHN in collaboration.

AllNews gathered that this year’s show featured performances with some of music’s most talented stars and some heartfelt acceptance speeches from the night’s big winners.

Hosted by Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold — H.E.R. was this year’s top nominee, receiving eight nods in total.

She was followed by Chris Brown, who nabbed seven nominations.

However, Brown was the top winner this year, winning four of the 12 awards presented, including best R&B/soul male artist and song of the year. 

H.E.R. won two awards — best R&B/soul female artist and the Ashford & Simpson songwriter’s award for “I Can’t Breathe.”

Beyoncé shared the video of the year award for “Brown Skin Girl” with her daughter, Blue Ivy, as well as Saint Jhn & Wizkid.

This would be Wizkid’s second win.

Brandy and Monica, who teamed to record the 1998 classic “The Boy Is Mine,” each received an award.

Brandy took the Soul Train certified award. Monica received the Lady of Soul award.
