Woman Gives Birth To Baby With Coronavirus Antibodies

A woman in Singapore, who had COVID-19, was delivered with a baby with antibodies that fight against coronavirus.

Strait Times, a Singaporean newspaper, reported that the baby was delivered in early November, with immunity against the virus that has killed 1.46 million people globally.

This marvel has shed light on the issue of whether mothers can transfer coronavirus to their babies.

The mother of the child, Celine Ng-Chan, according to Strait Times, said that her doctor had suggested that she had transferred some antibodies to her child while pregnant.

She was quoted as saying, “My doctor suspects I have transferred my COVID-19 antibodies to him during my pregnancy.”

Although, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says that it is still unclear as to whether a mother can transfer the virus to the newborn, as samples taken from breast milk have produced no sign of the virus.

Chinese scientists have found that antibodies against coronavirus are found in babies whose mothers have been infected by the virus and also have the antibodies present.
