Woman lands in remand for inserting burning firewood into 12

In Abeokuta, a 25-year-old woman has been remanded by the Isabo Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly causing grievous harm to a 12-year-old girl. 

The incident reportedly involved inserting a piece of burning firewood into the girl's private part.

The defendant, who resides at No. 6 Isewo Dotin in Obada-Oko area, Abeokuta, is facing a charge of causing grievous harm. 

She pleaded guilty to the charge and appealed for the court’s forgiveness.

Magistrate B.V. William ordered her remand in a correctional facility and directed the prosecution to duplicate the case file for submission to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The case was adjourned to June 26, for mention.

According to the prosecuting counsel, Lawrence Olu-Balogun, the defendant, who is the girl's guardian, allegedly committed the offence on June 11 at their residence, over the suspected theft of beverages valued at N650.

He told the court that the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
