World Cup 2022: Iran Upset Wales To Earn 2-0 Win, Hennessey

'Underdogs' Iran struck twice in the dying moments just after Wales went a man down to earn a 2-0 win in their Group B clash at the World Cup on Friday.

Rouzbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian scored to give Iran a famous win, which moved them into second place in the group behind England, who face the USA later in the day.

Wayne Hennessey became the first player to receive a red card at the Qatar World Cup on Friday.

Wales were blunt in their attack while Iran came with a purpose after earlier hitting the bar twice in quick succession.

A counter-attack left Wales' defence wanting but goalie Hennessey ran out to clear the ball but hit Taremi instead. The referee gave him a yellow card but after much protest from Iranian players, the VAR official intervened and Mario Escobar jogged to the dugout to have a proper check.

He ran back, cancelled the initial yellow card and issued Hennessey his marching orders.

The game took on a new complexion with Iran scoring their first goal through Cheshmi and later in a cool fashion Razaeian dinked the ball over a defender and the keeper to give Iran a solid 2-0 win over Wales.
