The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has advised traders to digitize their measures to move with advanced technology.
The North-West Zonal Coordinator of the Weights and Measures Department of the ministry, Auwal Uba, gave the advice on Friday, at an event to commemorate World Metrology Day in Kano.
Uba also appealed to the traders to discard inconsistencies in businesses and trades.
He highlighted the need for traders and companies that used measures to be God-fearing and maintain the legally accepted measures, to sanitise trades.
The coordinator said consumers needed education and awareness on their rights on measures used in many areas of trades and businesses as well as corporate measures.
According to him, “Consumers need to be given what they purchase and thus the need to enlighten them on varieties and importance of the right measures”.
To commemorate World Metrology Day 2022, the Zonal Office staged a roadshow to sensitise the public about their rights.
The annual World Metrology Day is commemorated on May 20 since the Meter Convention of 1875.
The convention set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and its industrial, commercial and societal applications.
