The VC was sighted with shoes causing stir among residents

There has been backlash from some residents of Kano when they spotted Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo with shoes at Darul Hadith Mosque during a condolence visit to the family of renowned hadith scholar, Dr Ahmad BUK who passed on last week.

Professor Osinbajo arrived Kano on Tuesday, to grace a lecture organized by the Sardauna Memorial Foundation titled, “Reviving the Northern Traditional Institutions: Imperatives for Peace and Security in the North” held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, in Kano.

After the program, he proceeded to pay a condolence visits to families of prominent statesmen that passed on within the month.

He was at the residence of former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), Bashir Tofa, where he described him as fearless and Patriotic.

However, when he arrived at Darul Hadith, Osinbajo entered the mosque; a sacred place for Muslim prayers that are protected from all forms of dirt with his shoes.

This has caused a stir among the people of Kano, who blamed members of the Vice President's entourage for failing to advise him on the right way to enter a Masjid.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Minister of Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami were especially blamed for their inability to speak up, probably because of Osinbajo's status.

This, some people in Kano like Yasir Ramadan who spoke to kanofocus said, "Barrack Obama during his time as President respected the sanctity of the Mosques and removed his shoes before entering one".

He added that the members of his entourage are highly hypocritical for keeping mute even when everybody else did remove theirs.

One Humairah who spoke to AllNews said that although, this is not the first time a person is seen entering a mosque with shoes, it is rare and unacceptable.

“This could make people think he doesn't respect their beliefs," she added.

Vice President Osinbajo was in Kano two days after APC Chieftain and Presidential Aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited the state on condolences visit.
