WWE Royal Rumble 2022 Highlights, Results [Videos]

Filled with surprise appearances and a few upsets, the 2022 Royal Rumble event did not disappoint. Both the female and male rumble matches were among the highlights of the night.

One of the best things about the evening was the inclusion of Hall of Famers whose presence was a reminder of how the old can help spice up the new.

Below are the matches, highlights, and results:

Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins (Universal Championship Match)

Seth Rollins started with some mind games as he entered the arena the way the defunct Shield used to; a deliberate attempt to mess with his former partner.

Rollins appeared to have the early advantage with a series of offensive attacks, sending Reigns outside the ring while taunting him. A well-executed uppercut by the champion turned the tide and Reigns began his assault on the challenger.

Rollins countered and almost got a three count before an enraged Reigns started to tear his opponent apart. Looking set for the win, Reigns launched a vicious spear but Rollins converted it into a pedigree and came close to defeating the champion yet again.

Tired of Rollins' taunts, Reigns locked his neck in a choking submission maneuver, and even after the former managed to get hold of the rope, refused to let go.

The official had no choice but to disqualify Reigns, meaning a defeat to Rollins but with his championship still intact.

Winner: Seth Rollins via disqualification.

Women's Royal Rumble Match

Sasha Banks was the first to enter the ring and she was joined by Melina. The match started and it took just a few seconds for Banks to oust the WWE legend. Tamina entered next and they both battled each other until Kelly Kelly joined the fray.

The ring gradually became full of other superstars and what followed was an entertaining fiasco, with the expected and unexpected happening.

Things took a far more interesting turn when Ronda Rousey made her epic return; the remaining combatants couldn't help but acknowledge her as she entered the ring.

In the end, it was between Rousey and Charlotte Flair and it was the former who won the competition, booking her place in Wrestlemania.

Winner: Ronda Rousey.

Becky Lynch vs Doudrop (Raw Women's Championship Match)

The challenger looked to win her first title from Lynch but she would learn what a daunting task that is.

Doudrop used her size and strength well in the early goings, gaining the upper hand but Lynch proved that she is no pushover, dishing back as she received.

Lynch came very close to losing her title but managed to kick out before the three count. It didn't her long to return the favour and this time, it was enough to seal the win.

Winner: Becky Lynch.

Brock Lesnar vs Bobby Lashley (WWE Championship Match)

Easily the biggest match of the night, this was the feature everyone was looking forward to. For the first time, two of the greatest stars in WWE history clashed in a historical moment for the championship gold.

Both men tested each other's strength before the real thing began. Lashley sent Lesnar outside the ring but when he went outside, the former sent him crashing through a barricade.

Slowly but surely, Lesnar started to methodically dominate the match, making the odds more uneven for the challenger. But out of nowhere, Lashley locked in his deadly submission hold, with his opponent managing to escape before he could pass out.

Things went from exciting to crazy when Roman Reigns decided to crash the party, spearing Lesnar for all his troubles. As if that was not enough, he hit Lesnar with his belt, leaving Lashley to swoop in for the win.

Winner: Bobby Lashley.

Men's Royal Rumble Match

The last but not least contest kicked off with AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura squaring off. In no time, the ring became crowded with more combatants and the mayhem which ensued was both glorious and delightful.

The atmosphere became frenzied when Brock Lesnar's entrance music boomed in the air. As the last entry in the match, it was obvious that the Beast Incarnate was pissed over his earlier ordeal.

Unleashing beatings on anyone and everyone around him, Lesnar eliminated most of his fellow combatants until he was left with only Drew McIntyre.

After a major staredown, both Goliaths proceeded to engage in an epic showdown. It didn't exactly come as a surprise when Lesnar picked his opponent up and threw him out of the ring at the end of it all.

Winner: Brock Lesnar.
