WWE Star Apollo Crews Reveals His Nigerian Heritage [VIDEO]

WWE superstar Apollo Crews revealed his Nigerian heritage when he turned heel on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

Born Sesugh Uhaa, the American wrestler is signed with the WWE where he performs under the ring name Apollo Crews.

On Friday night SmackDown, Crews turned heel (a scripted bad guy within the wrestling circuit) and gave a very different speech than any before in the ring.

Crews said, "A lot of people have been wondering what's been going on with me lately", adding that the WWE Universe doesn't know anything about him. He said he had been too nice for long enough and so had not received the respect he wanted in return.

"I'm not from the hood", he mentioned.  "And I'm not from Suburbia. I'm from Nigeria. I'm a real African American." He declared that WWE fans were about to see the real him and talked about his ancestry.

According to Crews, his ancestors controlled the wealthiest lands in Nigeria, and that he spent his days covered in gold and was in the company of his five wives during the night.

He stated that his word was law and his power was feared before pointing to the colours on the scarf he was wearing (green and white), saying: "If your enemies defy you, show them the steel."

 

Apollo Crews started his career in 2009 but his breakthrough came two years later when he signed for Dragon Gate USA Promotion. He thereafter travelled to Japan to work for them there.

He signed with WWE in 2015 and was taken to the NXT brand where he was given his current name. He was given a promotion to the WWE main roster in April 2016.
