X removes option to hide blue checkmarks for premium users

X, the popular platform, is reportedly reversing a previous policy change, this time affecting Premium users' ability to hide their blue checkmarks.

Users received notifications about this change on Thursday, although the platform has not provided clear reasons for the decision.

Previously, X had made it optional for users to display the blue checkmark.

Originally considered a symbol of status, the blue check lost some of its allure after X transitioned to a paid verification system under Elon Musk's ownership, where it simply indicated a Premium subscription.

However, the feature was often misused by scammers and impersonators, leading to instances of online harassment.

Recently, X distributed free blue checks to accounts with a large number of verified followers, catching some users by surprise.

In response, many new Premium and Premium Plus users opted to hide their blue checks.

Now, it appears that users will no longer have the option to do so.
