Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has revealed his priority lies in finding a suitable replacement for captain Sergio Busquets in the midfield position, rather than focusing on recruiting a right back for the club in the upcoming season.
Following Busquets' announcement of his departure, Xavi directed attention to the crucial task of finding a player to fill the void left by the seasoned midfielder.
He emphasized, "A new right-back is not our primary concern at the moment. With Busquets leaving, we need to focus on replacing him."
An ideal candidate to step into Busquets' role could be Joshua Kimmich, the talented defensive midfielder currently plying his trade at Bayern Munich.
Kimmich's exceptional passing vision and ability to contribute to the attack would align perfectly with Barcelona's renowned tiki-taka style of play.
While the specifics of how Barcelona will manage the transfer amid their financial constraints remain to be seen, the club is also actively pursuing the return of Lionel Messi this summer, further complicating matters.
Xavi, however, maintained his respect for Bayern Munich and acknowledged their contractual obligations to Kimmich.
"Kimmich? He’s a very good player, one of the best in his position. I won’t say more; Real Sociedad director was not happy [due to comment on Zubimendi] with that” Xavi explained, referring to a previous incident.
