YABATECH Suspends Students' Week Over Campus Shooting

YABATECH Suspends Students' Week Over Campus Shooting

The ongoing 'Students' Week' at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, has been suspended by the institution's management following the shooting incident which occurred on Wednesday.

Joe Ejiofor, the Deputy Registrar of YABATECH, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, stating that the activities of the week allowed villains and non-students into the school.

Ejiofor, who is also the Head of the Public Relations unit of YABATECH, expressed displeasure over the incident, noting that the management's move became necessary to restore sanity to the college.

The Deputy Registrar, however, confirmed that the person who was shot was not a student of YABATECH, while also assuring that the perpetrator had been arrested.

"Truly there was a problem that resulted in a shooting incident which took place on Wednesday during the ongoing ‘Students’ week’ but the people involved are not our students.

"There was an influx of people on the campus due to the activities and unfortunately some miscreants in the environment took undue advantage of the event to attack their opponents.

"The college management, therefore, suspended the event with immediate effect because of the sad development that involved shooting but the good news is that the perpetrator has been arrested and is at present at the Sabo Police Station, Yaba,“ Ejiofor said.

The PR Head further said the management, as a responsive one, would make sure students and staff of the institution are safe, maintaining "the college management will not relent on this"
