Yahaya Pays N3 Billion Backlog Of Gratuity To 5,000 LG, Stat

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Monday commenced the payment of N3 billion backlog of gratuity to over 5,000 Local Government and State retirees.

During the event which took place today at the Banquet Hall of the state's Government House, the governor said his administration has so far paid N7.9 billion out of the N21 billion backlog inherited from the previous administration.

The retirees expressed joy over the governor's gesture.

In his remark, Governor Yahaya stated that the era of civil servants working and dying without enjoying their gratuities and pensions is over.

"You have laboured in the service of our dear state, you must also enjoy the fruits of your labour", he declared.

"Our administration inherited a backlog of over N21 billion gratuities for both the State and LGA retirees from the past administration.

"State pensions obligation was over 14 billion while LGA was over N7 billion, bringing a total of over N21 billion in 2019", he added.

He noted that his administration had paid entitlements for the pensioners from 2014, 2015, and 2016, adding that today's payment covers 2017.

Governor Yahaya further stated that with today's payment, his administration has spent N6.6 billion to settle the pensioners.
