Yeni Kuti Reflects On Uncle’s Announcement Of Fela’s Death [Video]

Yeni Kuti, the daughter of legendary musician Fela Kuti, recently shared her perspective on the announcement made by her uncle, Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, regarding her father’s cause of death.

In an interview with media personality Chude, Yeni Kuti revealed the details of the family’s discussion and the impact of the decision.

According to Yeni Kuti, there was a disagreement within the family when her uncle proposed announcing that Fela had died of AIDS.

At the time, Fela had already been diagnosed with the disease, but the family believed he could survive and wanted him to have the opportunity to disclose his illness on his own terms.

However, after Fela’s passing, the family ultimately agreed to the announcement.

Yeni Kuti acknowledged that initially, they resisted the idea of publicly revealing Fela’s cause of death.

However, in retrospect, she now considers it the best decision her uncle made.

By disclosing the truth about Fela’s AIDS-related death, the family prevented speculation and allowed the focus to shift towards Fela’s legacy and achievements, rather than endless speculation about the cause of his demise.
