Following the boat accident in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, two people have been reported dead while many others are missing.
This was disclosed by the spokesperson to the governor, Mamman Mohammed.
Mohammed said the accident which was caused by a flood wave involving two passenger boats heading for the weekly Babangida market on Saturday afternoon.
He explained further that the boats capsized, causing the death of two.
According to him, Governor Mai Mala Buni has expressed sadness over the incident.
Premium Times reports that while two bodies have been recovered, an uncertain number of passengers were still missing as a result of the accident.
Mohammed added that the governor had since directed relevant agencies to take responsibility for an intensive search for the remaining victims.
While urging travellers by road or water to be cautious, he directed that all those living along waterways should relocate to avert similar occurrences.
According to the statement, Governor Buni said: “The heavy rains and floods usually come from far and unannounced; we should always be on the watch out and avoid dangerous waterways."
