Yobe: Buni directs use of newly approved national anthem in

The Governor of Yobe, Mai Mala Buni has directed the use of the newly approved National Anthem in all official functions across the state.

The governor's directive followed the signing of the National Anthem Bill 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, reverting to the old national anthem.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio had earlier today announced that: “This morning, Mr President signed into an Act of Parliament, the newly passed National Anthem 2024."

Meanwhile, Governor Buni represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana gave the directive to recite the newly approved National Anthem at an event at the State Government House in Damaturu, the state capital.

He further urged the participants to endeavour to teach their wards the new National Anthem as a symbol of unity, peace and diversity.

The Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Mai Suleh disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement partly reads: "No sooner had President Bola Tinubu signed into law, the reversion to the old National anthem, Yobe state Governor directed that henceforth the old National anthem be used in all official functions across the state.

"To demonstrate the commitment of the State Government towards that, the Deputy Governor who stood in for Governor Buni ordered the old national anthem be sung at an official occasion at Government House today 29 May 2024. Yobe is the first to observe the old national anthem.

"The Deputy Governor appealed to the participants of the meeting to try as much as possible to teach their wards the revert National anthem as a symbol of unity, peace and diversity."

Meanwhile, the new National Anthem reads:

"Nigeria, we hail thee, Our own dear native land, Though tribe and tongue may differ, In brotherhood we stand, Nigerians all, and proud to serve Our sovereign Motherland.

"Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign, In peace or battle honoured, And this we count as gain, To hand on to our children A banner without stain.

"O God of all creation, Grant this our one request, Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed, And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed."
