Yobe: Buni increases diesel supply to water corporation to t

The General Manager of the Yobe State Water Corporation, Mahdi Baba Zarma said the State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has raised the supply of diesel to the corporation to tackle water scarcity in the capital city of Damaturu and its environs.

He said the governor increased the supply from 40,000 litres to 60,000 litres monthly to bring an end to the water scarcity facing residents.

Zarma acknowledged receipt of the diesel while monitoring the supply at the State Water Corporation in Damaturu, adding that the supply will help power boreholes to improve water supply to the affected communities.

As contained in a statement on Saturday by Yusuf Ali, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Buni on Digital and Strategic Communications, the governor directed the Water Corporation to involve the community in the distribution process for optimum utilisation of the diesel to power all public boreholes in the capital city and surrounding areas.

Zarma added that with the increase in the diesel supply and involvement of the community, there would be enough to power all the boreholes in the affected areas.

He said: "The water scarcity arose due to the destruction of a critical 330KV electricity transmission line by unknown vandals. This left many boreholes to rely 100% on generators and significantly impacting on access to clean water for residents.

"Following the scarcity, Governor Buni directed the immediate distribution of diesel to all boreholes in Damaturu and environs to ease the problem of water scarcity being faced. With the increase in the supply of diesel, it is certain that the problem would be addressed."
