Yobe: Buni intervenes in military, civilians impasse

The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has intervened in the military and civilians impasse that occured on Sunday in Bade Local Government Area of the State.

Three persons were reportedly killed while others sustained injuries after a military patrol vehicle allegedly crashed into tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep filled with passengers.

The incident which took place in the evening of Sunday at the popular Garin-Alkali community close to Gashu’a town in Bade LGA led to a protest by the Keke Napep riders and other members of the public.

Governor Buni however called for a more harmonious military and civilian relationship in Gashua to promote peace in the area.

He described the incident as unfortunate, particularly at a time when the state is enjoying relative peace following over a decade-old insurgency.

He said: "It is sad and regrettable that lives are lost in an avoidable circumstance.

"We should always be united to fight our common enemy and not to be adversaries against ourselves."

As contained in a statement by Mamman Mohammed, the governor's spokesperson, Buni observed with dismay the reoccurring incidence in Gashua, saying "The state Government would meet with the Military authorities to bring a permanent solution to such threats to the relationship."

He added that the military and the residents have responsibilities to one another to achieve collective success.

The statement partly reads: "The governor prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased persons and condoled with their families.

"He directed free treatment to those who sustained injuries in the accident and admitted in the Specialist Hospital, Gashua."
