Yobe: Buni moves to tackle water scarcity in Damaturu, envir

Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni has taken steps to tackle water scarcity that has brought untold hardship to residents in Damaturu, the state capital and its environs. 

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Malam Wali said the governor has approached the issue squarely to ensure the availability of water supply to residents.

He said the governor directed him to liaise with the management of the State Water Corporation to ensure water supply to residents. 

He said: “The prolonged acute shortage of water in the city and water supply to Damaturu would be addressed as directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni. 

“The state Governor Mai Mala Buni was deeply concerned with the perennial shortage of water in the capital city of Damaturu and its environs, hence directed that diesel supply be increased to 60,000 litres from the initial 40,000 to the state water Corporation facilities, which has given them the opportunity to power more boreholes to improve the supply of Water to Damaturu community. 

“As a demonstration of government commitment, Governor Mai Mala Buni immediately directed the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to liaise with the management of the state water Corporation in order to ensure immediate supply of water to the people of Damaturu and environs.”

Yusuf Ali, the governor's Senior Special Assistant on Digital and Strategic Communications made this known in a statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, the SSG revealed that his office has been collaborating with the State Water Corporation in carrying out the governor's directive.

He said: “With this development, residents of Damaturu and environs facing water scarcity are set to see some relief as water supply will improve significantly Insha Allah.

“Governor Mai Mala Buni solicits more patience and prayers from the good people of Damaturu as more efforts were on top gear to ensure temporary and permanent solutions to the problem."
