Yobe Government Spends N2.9bn On Fertilizers in 4 Years

The Yobe state government has said that it has spent over N2.9 billion on the procurement of fertilizers in four years. 

The commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Mairo Amshi made this known on Saturday. 

Amshi said the state government had in 2021 spent N1.5 billion of the money on the procurement of 3,000 tones of NPK 20:10:10 fertilisers.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she further disclosed that the fertilizer is currently sold in the open market at a government subsidised rate of N13,000 per bag. 

She further disclosed that out of the money, N1.4 billion was spent on supply of 7,500 tones of NPK 15:15:15 in 2020.

She added that the fertilizer was sold at N5,000 per bag. 

The commissioner also stated that N882 million was spent on procurement of 40 tractors in 2019.

She added that the government also supported farmers with N11million each to pay back in four years.
