Yobe Market Fire: Buni Promises Support, Relocation To Moder

Following the fire incident at the Bayan-Tasha market in Damaturu, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has promised to support victims of the incident.

The market was engulfed in flames on Friday, leaving behind a trail of destruction. 

Governor Buni expressed his deep sorrow upon receiving the sad and unfortunate news. 

This was contained in a statement by Mamman Mohammed, spokesperson to the governor, on Friday.

According to Mohammed, the governor described the incident as economic sabotage, causing great hardship to countless businessmen and their families.

To prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of traders, Governor Buni announced plans for the allocation of the Damaturu, Gashua and Nguru Ultra Modern Markets. 

"I am deeply saddened by this disaster affecting the means of livelihood of many people and their families.

"Government will look into this huge loss to provide succour to the victims to get back on their feet.

"The Damaturu, Gashua and Nguru Ultra Modern Markets would soon be allocated for traders to move to the more secured environment, to be protected against the menace of incessant fire outbreaks in the markets," the governor said.

Mohammed explained that the newly commissioned Ultra Modern markets were constructed with fireproof technology using burnt bricks to protect goods against fire outbreaks. 

The governor further urged the traders and people to take precautionary measures to guard against electrical faults and other possible sources of fire in business environments.
