The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has delivered Governor Mai Mala Buni's relief items to victims of fire disaster at the Federal University Gashua (FUGA).

Following the fire incident on March 23, 2024, Governor Buni had directed SEMA to assess the level of damages and provide relief to the female students whose properties were destroyed in the inferno.

The fire disaster which razed the school's female hostel also resulted in the death of one student.

The Yobe SEMA delegation led by the Agency's Executive Secretary, Mohammed Goje mobilized on Friday to deliver the governor's support, including food and non-food items. 

Delivering the items to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, Goje reiterated Governor Buni's commitment to support disaster victims and vulnerable persons in the state. 

He said: "These items may not replace what the students lost but will certainly cushion and close some gaps associated with the unfortunate disaster."

He further commiserated with the students and university management over the unfortunate incident and the loss of one student who was reportly burnt beyond recognition in the inferno. 

On her part, the Vice Chancellor commended the State Government for conducting on-the-spot assessment and responded timely, assuring that the items will be judiciously utilized.

The items included matresses, bags of rice, wrappers, sanitary pads, blankets, detergents, soap, and mosquito nets.
