You Have Failed In Job Creation - Reps To NDE

The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating government agencies’ overlapping functions has blamed the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) for failing to provide jobs to unemployed Nigerians.

The Chairman of the Committee, Victor Mela registered their displeasure at its investigative hearing in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the NDE had not lived to the expectations of Nigerians while demanding for a five-year performance assessment report from it to justify its existence.

Mela added that is was in line with the mandate of the probe panel.

However, in his reply, the NDE Director-General, Abubakar Nuhu said the agency was mandated by law to provide employment to the unemployed, insisting that the agency had provided employment and skills for unemployed Nigerians in line with its mandate.

But Mela insisted that there is massive unemployment and the agency had not really lived up to its responsibility.

He directed the agency to provide a five-year performance assessment report on employment generation or be recommended for merger.
