Current Barcelona manager and legend of the club, Xavi has brutally warned incoming manager, Hansa Flick that he will "suffer" at the club when he takes over the dugout.

Xavi reneged on his plans to step down as manager of the club where he won several titles and emerged as one of the world's best players but the board members including club President Joan Laporta and football director - who was Xavi's teammate whilst they were players at the club - decided to sack him over comments about the club's financial state and inability to challenge for the biggest titles.

The statements were said to have irked Laporta who sanctioned his sack.

The 44-year-old, who had been contracted until 2025, was informed of the club's decision to sack him last week, with Flick set to take over next season.

"He [Flick] will suffer, this is a very complicated place," Xavi said to the media when asked about his successor who was in charge of Germany and recently was linked to the Chelsea job.

"He should know that he has a tough situation because Barca is a challenging club but on top of that it is in an adverse economic situation. It will not be an easy task."

The Barcelona legend pointed out that while he did not agree with his departure, he accepted that the club had the final say.

"It is not for me to say the reasons or the motives. I think it is up to the president to say them," he added.

"I had no choice but to accept it. It doesn't matter if I agree with the arguments. I'm not leaving with a sense of relief because we wanted to continue. These are decisions made by the club. We understood and respected that, but we thought it wasn't over."

Barcelona finished in second place in the 2023/2024 La Liga season behind Real Madrid who are hoping to win another European title in Saturday's UEFA Champions League final.
