Young Drivers' I Don't Care Attitude And How It Sucks Innocent Blood

Young Drivers' I Don't Care Attitude And How It Sucks Innoce

Gbam! Oooh, another hit and run. The agony of the unexpected death of individuals who are hale and hearty due to reckless driving is a disaster that words cannot perfectly describe

The Vice Principal of Ibadan Grammar School, Iyiola Agbejinmi was in the right place to explain how hurtful it could be when one's family happens to be a victim of inaction.

‘Yahoo Boys’ (Internet fraudsters) sometimes in their dreadlocks drive around major highways in Ibadan with happiness.

On the contrary, some of them leave other people who use the roads with no option other than irrefutable gloom.

The family of Abimbola Uthman is one of those peasants who are waning owing totally to these yahoo boys' handiwork.

Abimbola lost her life to challenging a suspected Yahoo boy who bashed her car on October 14, 2022.

Abimbola, a  teacher at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan was killed by a suspected Yahoo boy behind the wheel of a brown Siena car as disclosed by her seven-year-old daughter.

How did it happen?

At about 8 pm on October 14, 2022, late Abimbola went to receive her eldest daughter who was returning to Ibadan from Ekiti State at the gate of the University of Ibadan.

She parked her car in front of Polaris Bank where a wine-coloured Sienna mini bus hit her car from behind.

According to the brother of the deceased, Abimbola alighted from her car to assess the extent of the damage.

"The driver of the Siena bus which hit her car did not come down and was not moved at all.

She told the young man to park and come down to check the damage but he was said to have threatened to crush her with his vehicle if she didn’t leave the road.

Before Abimbola could move an inch the young man had crushed her to death.

At around 12:15 am the following morning, the school teacher passed away at UCH Ibadan while the perpetrator had fled.

It was hard for anyone to identify the culprit because nobody could give his proper description.

The whole thing happened in a flash according to eyewitnesses. The case was reported at the Sango Police Station, Ibadan.

According to police, it was still investigating the incident as at the time of compiling this report.

The incident has left a happy family in an uncontrollable gloom. The 48-year-old's family members still struggling to come to terms with the shock of the incident and her demise.

The family believes she was run over deliberately by the "yet-to-be-identified boy". More depressingly, the culprit is yet to be brought to justice.

How many innocent lives will Nigeria lose to recklessness on the part of these irresponsible individuals?

When will the country stop losing innocent souls? In addition, it is important that Nigeria wake up to the sheer wickedness that abounds in the nation.

For many, there is still justice in the world. For late Abimbola's family, justice is a dream.
