Akwa Ibom State Police Command has disclosed that a youth leader in the Rice Miller Association, Eddy Etim Onuka, and 4 of his gang members have been apprehended for kidnapping and murder.
Superintendent of Police Odiko Macdon, the command's Public Relations Officer, said in a statement that the arrest was effected over the weekend by men from the Inspector General's Tactical Team in the state.
He continued that the suspects confessed to being behind two kidnap incidences in the state, one of which involved the killing of one Emmanuel as he was trying to resist them, and another in which a ransom of N20 million was collected.
“This is a case of kidnapping where they abducted one Mr Emmanuel, who sells engine parts and shot him dead when the man resisted the kidnap. This was the first incident.
“The second incident involved kidnapping one Aniekan and collecting over N20 million ransom from him. They confessed to the fact that they used AK 47 in the operation,” the statement read.
The police spokesman said all the suspects played vital roles in the kidnapping and killing of the victims, and he reiterated the commitment of the Police towards ensuring the safety of lives and property of residents of the state.
