YouTube Introduces Creator Music, New Music Store For Video Creators

YouTube Introduces Creator Music, New Music Store For Video

YouTube on Tuesday unveiled a brand new service called Creator Music, which is currently in beta testing for content creators who use music as a background for their videos.

In addition to offering a vast database of songs for producers to explore, search, and buy, this new website will also lay out the prices associated with the music rights in plain language.

They can choose tracks with a new revenue-sharing option that allows both content producers and owners of the music rights to profit from their work.

The modifications were unveiled on Tuesday at the Made on YouTube live event, where the company outlined its strategies for retaining the community of video creators in the face of TikTok's mounting threat.

Here, it made a number of announcements with the main goal of assisting creators in increasing their earnings.

However, YouTube is also making it easier for producers to locate musical accompaniment for their videos using Creator Music.

“Creators have told us, time and time again, that finding the right song isn’t the hard part.

"It’s actually figuring out how to license it,” noted Amjad Hanif, VP of Creator Products at YouTube.

The music licence holder receives all ad money when a creative utilises a tune they don't own, as was revealed at the event.

Because of this, YouTube videos frequently do not use commercial music; nevertheless, the company's new service seeks to change that.

The tracks on Creator Music can either be bought directly or through a rev-share agreement, which keeps the money in-house instead of going to the rights holder.

In the first case, the creator is purchasing a licence with clearly stated terms and fees.

In the latter scenario, creators won't have to pay anything upfront to get access to the songs; instead, they will divide a portion of their earnings with the musicians.

“Music can power that emotional connection between artists, creators, and all of their fans — and we want to strengthen this by offering creators more choices to work with, while at the same time helping artists meet the fans where they already are: right here on YouTube,” added Hanif.

Creators can utilise this new resource to look for the songs they have in mind or to look for songs within the budget they have established for the project.

Instead of being restricted to stock music or having no music at all, as is frequently the case, especially with smaller makers who cannot afford the costs associated with using music in their films, the service allows them a method to access a bigger repertoire of contemporary music.

Naturally, Creator Music also gives YouTube another weapon in its arsenal when battling TikTok, a site that has flourished thanks to short videos set to popular music and is currently thought to be developing its own streaming music service.

According to YouTube, Creator Music is now in beta testing and will go live in the United States later this fall. Currently, the service collaborates with independent partners such as Empire, Believe, Downtown, and Merlin.

However, the business did not specify whether or when it will incorporate large labels.

Creator Music will extend to more regions in 2023 after its U.S. debut.
