YouTube on Monday has announced the launch of “YouTube Shorts” its new short-form video experience to create short, catchy videos from mobile phones.

“YouTube Shorts” was first introduced in September 2020 and it's now available in over 100 countries. The service would be available to Nigerian users by Wednesday by July 14.

The new service introduced to Nigeria is a way to connect with a new audience using a smartphone and the Shorts Camera. YouTube users in Nigeria can now access Shorts’ creation tools in order to give their favourite videos a creative spin.

YouTube users will have access to a multi-segment camera to link multiple video clips together and the ability to record with music, control speed settings and more.

Also, it grants users the ability to test audio pieces, not only from other Shorts but from other contents across the platform. This gives users unique creative touches and helping them find new audiences.

Text addition is also included to the specific duration points in the video, the ability to record up to 6o seconds with the Shorts camera, ability to add clips from the phone gallery to recordings made with the Shorts camera. Other features include filter options to add colour, effects and vibrancy to the Shorts videos and caption additions.

Global Product Manager for YouTube Shorts, Todd Sherman, said that the entire purpose was to make it easy and fun for creators to create content.

“We want to make it easy and fun to create Shorts. As we continue to build Shorts alongside our creators and artists, we’ll be adding more features for users to try”.

YouTube Shorts will be integrated into the YouTube platform thereby allowing users to fully access full songs and music videos just from listening to snippets on a Shorts video thereby improving the experience.

“We know that it will take us time to get this right and we’re just getting started. We can’t wait for you to try Shorts and help us build a first-class short-form video experience right on YouTube”, Sherman said.
