Yuletide: NGO Gifts Disabled, Others In Lagos

Yuletide: NGO Gifts Disabled, Others In Lagos

In the spirit of Yuletide, BeBe Foundation distributed gift items and cash to vulnerable Lagos residents on Thursday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), beneficiaries were mostly people living with disabilities, widows, and those just released from prison.

Items distributed included shoes, clothes, cream and seasonal packs with wheat and rice, while N5000 cash was also given to each beneficiary.

Chairman of the group, Dr Stephen Oyinlola, said that the idea was to put smiles on people's faces, especially those who cannot afford three meals a day.

“The issue here is that wherever you are, try to make people happy, let somebody be happy through you, that is the message we are passing out today.

“Most of the beneficiaries are visually impaired, they can not work and can not even afford meals three times a day,” he said.

Additionally, Dr Onyekachi Ubani, a legal practitioner and donor, praised the group for making Yuletide special for those who are vulnerable.

According to him, society should adopt the habit of giving in order to fulfil both God's and humanity's mandate.

“There is joy in giving, especially this period, God commands us to look towards the less privileged and members of the society to ensure they are not neglected,” Ubani said.

Mofe Oyatogun, the convener of the program also appreciated everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

Oyatogun said the idea was to restore the African culture of community in which a problem facing one individual becomes a problem for all.

Beneficiaries were encouraged to stay positive despite difficult times and to do anything they could to stay out of depression.

One of the beneficiaries, Solomon Feyisetan, urged others not to sell the items and praised the convener for taking this initiative.

In his words, the beneficiaries shouldn't lose hope as they weren't neglected.
