Zamfara: Bandits kidnap College of Health Science students

Two female students from Zamfara State's College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, have been abducted by bandits.

The students were seized Thursday night from their leased flat in the Matuna village on the outskirts of town. The bandits were alleged to have assaulted the region to abduct people, but instead kidnapped the students.

Confirming the occurrence, the College's Provost, Hamisu Yelwa, stated that the school officials, in partnership with security agencies, are working to provide complete facts of what happened.

Yelwa stated that security has been tightened up around the school and town.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Friday described as ‘fictitious’ the reported abduction of 500 persons in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, in a statement on Friday, said contrary to reports, only four persons were abducted from the community.

He disclosed that troops of Operation Hadarin Daji were actively fighting a vicious enemy in a complex combat environment in which several factors were at interplay both on and off the battlefield.

General Buba said the troops were compelled to deal with two realities, noting, “The virtual reality as well as the reality on the ground.”

He explained that virtual reality mostly on social media is more of fictitious figures and extreme exaggeration of the situation on the ground.

“For instance, it is fictitious and over-exaggeration to state that over 500 people were abducted by terrorists, while in reality troops can confirm that four persons were abducted.”

Recall that Allnews.ng had reported that the Goran Namaye hamlet In Zamfara State's Maradun Local Government Area was invaded by infamous bandits, resulting in the reported deaths of three people and the kidnapping of over 120 others.

According to the Daily Post, a local citizen identified himself as Abubakar Muhammad claimed that the terrorists broke into the town on Thursday around 1:17 in the morning and proceeded to attack houses one by one.

He said that the majority of the individuals abducted were males and women and that three people were also slain by the terrorists while conducting their operation

“The whereabouts of many members of the community could not be traced, and it is very clear that we lost three of our men to the tragic operation,” he added.

Speaking further, Muhammad stated that the bandits arrived in big numbers on motorbikes wielding sophisticated weaponry and encircled the neighbourhood as the residents were fleeing for their lives.
