The Joint Task Force Northwest's Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) killed 12 terrorists on Friday, while others fled with bullet wounds.

Lt. Suleiman Omale, OPHD's information officer, said in a statement on Saturday, "In the early hours of yesterday, Friday, April 12th, 2024, the troops successfully dominated the Babban Doka, Gobirawar Challi, and Kabaro axis under Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, engaging the terrorists in a heavy gun duel.

“During the operation, our brave troops from Dansadau Forward Operating Base exhibited exceptional courage, overpowering the criminal elements and neutralizing 12 terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds.”

In a subsequent mop-up patrol, he explained that the gallant troops recovered significant weapons and assets from the scene, including 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 magazine, 2 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 1 locally made gun, 1 Dane gun, and 18 cows, as well as 10 terrorist motorcycles that were recovered and destroyed on the spot.

According to the statement, Brigadier General S. Ahmed, Commander 1 Brigade and Sector 1 OPHD, praised our troops' perseverance, doggedness, and valour, and asked them to keep the momentum going until normality was fully restored in the region.

Brigadier General S. Ahmed also thanked the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, of Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD), Major General GM Mutkut, for his tactical leadership and unwavering support for the troops in carrying out their mission.

Meanwhile, airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have killed many terrorists in Zamfara State. The airstrikes targeted terrorist camps belonging to kingpins Abdullahi Nasanda and Mallam Tukur.

The strikes, carried out on April 10 after Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures and equipment. 

NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshall Edward Gabkwet, who disclosed this in a statement on April 11, said the air strikes were conducted after Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

He said: “Having established that their activities were consistent with terrorists’ modes of operation, the location was struck by multiple aircraft passes, thereby neutralizing several terrorists.

“Similar ISR missions were conducted at Mallam Tukur Camp, where terrorists’ activities were also observed. Air strikes conducted on the Camp neutralized several terrorists and showed several structures set ablaze and destroyed.

“Air strikes were also extended to Kani kawa in Maradun town, under Maradun LGA of Zamfara State, where terrorists, their enclaves and equipment were attacked and destroyed.”
