Zelenskyy Expects More Russian Attacks In Ukraine's Eastern

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects Russia will escalate its attacks this week on the eastern side of Ukraine.

This is as Ukraine lost control of a village adjacent to the eastern industrial city of Severodonetsk.

The President said; "Obviously, this week we should expect from Russia an intensification of its hostile activities."

He added; "We are preparing. We are ready."

Ukraine applied to join the EU 4 days after Russian troops started its invasion in February.

The EU's executive arm, which is the European Commission, on Friday recommended that Ukraine receive candidate status.

Leaders of the EU will consider the question at a summit this Thursday and Friday, and are expected to endorse Ukraine's application.

But the process could take many years to complete.
